Too Sane a Murder
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (December, 1984)
Author: Lee Martin
Average review score:

A Classic Mystery
Have you ever read a Deb Ralston mystery? If you haven't, this is a good book to start with. Deb is an average police-mom trying to solve a murder case with almost no evidence. The suspect always cleans the house spic and span after each murder. It is almost impossible to guess who is doing the murders, but if you're good, you just might figure it out. The plot of the story is very deep and easy to understand. If you enjoy police procedurals, this is close to the TV series C.S.I. I hope this review will help you chose if you would like this book or not.

SCRUMDILLYUMPTIOUS food
I love cookbooks as my mother did before me. I read them for fun and getting the juices flowing without the calories! The recipes are fantastic and easy enough to follow for novices (myself) and the stories on the Texas Chefs are interesting, too. If you're a cookbook collector, you'll want to add this one for sure. Y'all be blessed!

Top Texas Teachers
Published in Paperback by Republic of Texas Pr (June, 2002)
Author: Dorothy McConachie
Average review score:

A Positive Portrayal of a Diverse Group of Great Teachers
Top Texas Teachers uses the short biographical sketch format to briefly examine the careers of teachers who do their jobs well. In this time when everyone has a "magic formula" or "secret test" to suddenly solve all the challenges in our school, it's a pleasure to read this book, which takes on the question 'what makes a good teacher?' one teacher at a time. The striking thing about the teachers here is what a diverse set of circumstances and personalities are found among the educators profiled. The author skilfully shows us that the common threads are not identical personalities or approaches, but rather the more straightforward values of diligence and compassion. The book is an extremely easy and entertaining read. If you've wanted to understand teaching from the perspective of "who makes it work?" rather than the more familiar "everything's wrong", this is an excellent place to start.

Touring Texas Gardens

Outstanding!
This directory spotlights the best of Texas gardens. Many are hard-to-find treasures you'll recommend to gardening friends and family as great destination spots, or as ideal along-the-way travel breaks while driving through the state.

The guide book provides details about each special garden: days and hours, garden type, size, themes, special "don't-miss" features, and even "bird alert" notes for birders. Many Texans don't know about these secret places -- I didn't! -- but with TOURING TEXAS GARDENS you'll find favorites to return to, time and again.

The Trail Drivers of Texas
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Texas Press (May, 1985)
Authors: Marvin J. Hunter, J. Marvin Hunter, and B. Byron Price
Average review score:

First-hand accounts of TX trail drivers or their descendants
An excellent rendition of early TX history through a compilation of first hand accounts of trail drivers or their spouses or descendants. Since the accounts were either written or spoken there are frequent misspellings of names such as the Dietert Brothers of Boerne, TX, and Wenzel Friedrich of San Antonio Horn furniture fame, but the reader can find through this with some research efforts. Much history of the people, places, times, and conditions given as individual recollections serve as an excellent source of reference. Forturnately, the Trail Drivers Association in conjuction with the author foresaw the importance of such an endeavor before this important history would be lost as these people inevitably would die off. I feel the book is a tremendously interesting book! I accidentally stumbled on it in Boerne, TX, in the library and was so excited when I found a copy for myself in hardback, though also available in paperback.

WHERE ARE THE REVIEWS?
Details on this book indicate 202 Amazon reviews with an average rating of 4.9; however I can find no reviews whatsoever here. This book is referenced in David Pitney's Ghosts of the Northeast and Pitney says it's a good book. Is there anyone who has read this which can offer further info for potential buyers? What haunted areas of Texas are covered? The authors are reporters for the Houston Chronicle newspaper. Are these individual hauntings within Houston and its suburbs? This book does seem rather short at just 140 pages.
